SJC Custom Drums announced the addition of Frank Zummo to the SJC family. “I’ve been a huge fan of Frank’s drumming career for a long time,” said Mike Ciprari co-founder of SJC Drums, “and it’s an honor to finally welcome him into the family.” Frank recently toured 13 Voices with Sum 41 and also tours with EDM duo Krewella, and percussion group Street Drum Corps.
SJC Drums and Zummo are building a custom kit together – they have teamed up with Shepard Fairey, American contemporary street artist, graphic designer, activist, illustrator, and founder of OBEY. “As if it couldn’t get any better working with Frank, I’ve dreamed of doing a drum kit with Shepard’s artwork on it since I was a kid,” said Ciprari. The drum kit will contain original artwork from Shepard’s art piece “Rise Above.”
“The world has been a crazy place these days and I wanted to make a statement piece kit because I speak through my art and drumming. I called Shepard and he was onboard,” said Zummo, “SJC has amazing and next level technology to bring the art pieces to life on the kit. It’s been amazing to work with a company that knows how to push boundaries and create special art kits and also amazing sounding drums.”
Fairey adds “I have been a fan of Frank Zummo’s drumming since I first heard him play with Street Drum Corps and then with the thenewno2, as well as a slew of other stylistically diverse projects from metal to electro. Frank crushes it on drums in any style. I’m an artist who is very passionate about music, and Frank is a musician who is very passionate about art, so it was natural for us to collaborate. Punk rock was a huge influence for me to be outspoken with my art, so I’m especially honored that Frank is playing in a punk band and showcasing my “Rise Above” art on his drum kit. The craftsmanship on the drums is extraordinary and I’m proud to have my art woven into the drum kit so beautifully! Art and music are very powerful combination.”
Zummo will take the kit on a worldwide tour with Sum 41 starting October 5 at the House of Blues in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, that will go well into the new year. SJC Drums will also be displaying this one of a kind drum set at their Winter NAMM booth at the Anaheim Convention Center in January 2017. The drums will finally reside in the Hard Rock Las Vegas when his busy tour cycle wraps up. “This is something I’m really proud of and can’t wait to take this kit on the road” said Zummo.
