Spector has upgraded its Legend 5 series with a new instrument that packs a lot of bass into a very affordable package. Right off the bat, you immediately notice the familiar curved NS body that Spector is famous for, along with a beautifully finished ash body with a flame maple top. This well-balanced instrument is extremely lightweight for a 5-string, tipping the scales at around 12 lbs.

This baby handles like a dream. The goldilocks action feels “just right” and your fingers just glide over the frets with ease. The 5-piece maple/padauk bolt-on neck is narrow enough for a 4-string player like me to play comfortably while still leaving enough room for that glorious low B to rattle your bones with the thunder. I had no issues whatsoever reaching the highest frets allowing full control over the entire fretboard. The dual SSD humbuckers give off a bright and poppy tone that allow the player to shine no matter if they are plucking, strumming, or slapping and the two-band active EQ controls make it really easy for anyone to dial in their sound whether they are playing rock, metal, or jazz. The high notes are sharp and snappy and the low notes burp the way you expect a Spector to sound.

For an “economy” model, the Legend 5 Standard holds its own against all of my higher-end basses which was a delightful surprise. Whether you are a beginner just starting out or a pro looking to add a 5-string to your arsenal, this bass is great for any player with any budget.
