Sweetwater, the No. 1 online retailer for music makers, earned a 2025 Top 100 North American Inspiring Workplaces Award for creating an exemplary workplace that puts people first, and fosters a high-performing, values-driven culture that promotes trust, purpose, and belonging. This year, Sweetwater ranked ninth out of 100 awarded companies across the continent, and fourth among large-size businesses in North America.

Celebrating its 10th year, Inspiring Workplaces recognizes organizations that go beyond offering a great place to work—the winning employee culture empowers individuals to thrive, fueling innovation, performance, and lasting impact. Last week, winners were announced at a ceremony in Chicago, where Sweetwater was honored alongside revered global brands including Equifax and Siemens.

Sweetwater’s award-winning approach to serving customers begins by caring for the company’s people. And it’s rooted in human connection that leads to lifetime customer relationships, with a passion for creating that is passed down from generation to generation.

“Always doing the right thing is the driving force behind Sweetwater’s four decades of success,” explained Sweetwater CEO Mike Clem. “How we care for our employees mirrors the Sweetwater Difference that we’re known for delivering to our customers. It’s the above-and-beyond attention to detail, serving with heart, and unlocking potential in others.”

Sweetwater was given special recognition by Inspiring Workplaces for well-being and inclusion efforts. These additional accolades celebrate organizations that foster an inclusive culture where employees can bring their true selves to work and feel supported with tangible programs that promote their overall well-being.

The Inspiring Workplaces Awards annually recognize and celebrate organizations of all sizes and industries for creating exceptional, people-first workplaces and cultures that promote employee belonging and encourage increased engagement, productivity, and overall success. They also rank the top 100 organizations in each of eight regional categories — Global, North America, U.K. and Ireland, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Australasia, Asia, and Latin America — based on the inputs of an independent expert judging panel.

As an extension of the always do the right thing motto, Sweetwater has placed a heavy emphasis on employee wellbeing. They take a holistic approach, with a focus on five specific areas of health: mental, physical, financial, social, and professional. Highlights of the company’s efforts include:

  • Licensed in-house mental health counselor that offers free, confidential sessions at our HQ campus. They saw an additional 350+ sessions booked with our in-house counselor.
  • Free fitness center, racquetball court, free in-house personal trainer, and medical clinic with a doctor and nurse for employees and families.
  • Financial education through their employee assistance program partner and 401k representatives, who hold monthly office hours.
  • Host company-wide events such as a Family Zoo Picnic, free outings to sporting events, a Turkey Giveaway, Santa Lunch, and Employee Appreciation Cookouts.
  • Partner with local nonprofits to offer employees volunteer and service opportunities. In 2024, Sweetwater launched “Turn up the Volume,” allowing employees to vote on company philanthropy towards nonprofits.
  • Partnered with two local secondary educators to provide continued learning opportunities to leverage our Education Reimbursement Program, even allowing employees to defer payments, until degree completion.
