Thomann has invested a further €27m in the logistics operation at its Burgebrach HQ.
Working with logistics specialist TGW, the investment has been made with the aim of improving delivery times to the firm’s seven million customers across Europe. The new system will be added in stages and is expected to be entirely in place by August 2018.
Central to the new logistics centre is a new warehouse with 110,000 parking spaces on 25 levels. In addition, a five-aisle automatic picking system will handle guitars, electric pianos and other larger musical equipment items.
The twelve pick and packing stations are supplied from a shuttle system, the picking is carried out directly from the storage containers into shipping cartons of different sizes. The system is comlpletely integrated with TGW software which completes the delivery process.
The new system will speed up delivery times with a particular focus on the peak seasonal selling periods.
