VanderCook College of Music is proud to announce that Paul Lavender, Vice President of Instrumental Publications for Hal Leonard Corporation, has recently been elected to the Board as its newest Trustee.

VanderCook College has a longstanding relationship with Hal Leonard Corporation, as the music publishing and distribution company has made significant contributions to VanderCook’s goals. The two organizations’ work are aligned, with VanderCook-educated teachers all over the world using Hal Leonard’s materials to support and teach their pupils. Furthermore, Dr. Cheryl Lavender, internationally established music educator, composer, clinician and keynote speaker as well as Trustee Lavender’s wife, holds an Honorary Doctorate from VanderCook. The College hopes to continue building and nurturing this relationship, and Trustee Lavender’s acceptance of his position as a Board member will undoubtedly be productive to that end.

“We are excited to have Paul Lavender join the Board of Trustees at VanderCook. Paul’s wealth of knowledge and experience will help guide our college and strengthen our leadership role in Music Education,” George Quinlan, Jr., Chairman of the Board, said. “As a nationally recognized composer, arranger and author, his unique perspective will enhance VanderCook’s reputation for providing a practical approach to Music Education.”

At Hal Leonard, Trustee Lavender directs the product development and marketing of its impressive catalog of music and educational publications for a wide range of ensembles. Under his supervision, Hal Leonard publishes over 600 new instrumental publications annually, with Trustee Lavender’s careful eye overseeing the creative work of numerous respected composers and arrangers. He has also worked closely with celebrated film composer John Williams, producing, arranging, and supervising music for him in several contexts.

Trustee Lavender has also made waves in the music education world as the co-author and managing editor of Essential Elements, one of the top curriculums for band and orchestra. Through this leading curriculum Hal Leonard was able to release Essential Elements Interactive (EEI), an impressive foray into the exponentially growing online music education world.

His marketing knowledge, creativity and multifaceted position in the music industry all serve to make him an ideal fit for VanderCook’s Board of Trustees. His unique insight will aid in the Board’s pursuit for continuous growth and knowledge so that it can best serve VanderCook.
