Lily Tran, a.k.a. Velmalicious, is a DJ and MC based out of San Jose, California. She is also the founder of Angels of Sound – a female-owned production and entertainment company for events of all sizes.

Tran was not convinced that she needed a new PA system, but took a trip to her local Guitar Center at the behest of her husband and self-proclaimed “weekend roadie,” Mark Sebastian. “We were in the market to add another set of speakers, with a budget of around $2000.” recalled Sebastian. “We noticed the BASSBOSS BB15 – it was smaller than her usual sub, but had a more premium price.” Sebastian’s curiosity was piqued. He did some digging online, and noticed that BASSBOSS had nothing but positive reviews from other users.

Tran and Sebastian eventually made their way back to Guitar Center to test out the sub first-hand. “It not only exceeded our expectations, it also exceeded the expectations of the Guitar Center staff,” recalled Sebastian. Tran observed that a store employee came in from another room to point out that the shelves were rattling and some signage had fallen from the walls.

Out of curiosity, they also decided to try out the matching BASSBOSS SV9 single 9” powered top to go with it. “We were so impressed by the clarity,” said Sebastian. “It was a whole other class of sound, compared to the speakers we originally intended to buy. It was also an even more compact and light form factor.”

“The sound was so balanced and so clear,” recalled Tran. “It reminded me of the first time I put on a pair of high-end headphones. It’s like being transported into the music.” As Tran stepped back, she noticed how there was no degradation in quality. “That’s what really sold me on the system – how well the sound traveled,” she noted. “From the low end to the high end, everything sounds clear.”

Following the impressive demo, Tran and Sebastian decided to purchase a full BASSBOSS system, consisting of two BB15 powered subwoofers and two matching SV9 active tops. “The lightweight form factor makes a huge difference for me,” noted Tran. “Especially if I’m on a solo gig with no help – I can manage to carry all the gear on my own.”

“It was more than we originally planned to spend on an upgrade, but we were so excited about the demo that we knew it was worth it,” remarked Sebastian. “On top of that, all the interactions with BASSBOSS staff have been very positive and we couldn’t wait to ring everything out at her first gig.”

Tran had an opportunity to live test the system at a recent Miss Vietnam of Northern California pageant. “We kept the levels very low, but the manager of the venue still received a complaint from four stories below and told us to turn it down,” recalled Tran. “I said to myself: That’s a good sign!”
