West Midlands-based (U.K.) Warwick Music has been revealed as a Future Champion for Innovation at the 2013 National Business Awards, which makes three major accolades for the business in as many months – following success as Innovation Business of the Year at the Nectar Business Awards and Midland’s SME of the year too.

Judges at the National Business Awards recognised Warwick Music of Coventry for its transformational pBone – the world’s first plastic trombone has now sold more than 90,000 worldwide – becoming the world’s best selling trombone. Warwick Music was the only business amongst ten finalists in the innovation category to be selected for the accolade.

Warwick Music was formed in 1994 and has since then grown into one of the world's leading music publishing companies specialising in wind and brass music. There are over 1,500 titles in the Warwick Music catalogue which cover all genres, styles and abilities and the company represents composers from across the globe. The company introduced pBone in 2010 and since then it has taken the brass music world by storm.

Steven Greenall, chief executive of Warwick Music comments, “I’m delighted we have been recognised as a future champion at the National Business Awards for Innovation. Our innovation will likely be around for a long time, as opposed to technical innovations which can be short-lived.

“We always say pBone is innovation in its rawest form – we have taken something that has not changed in 500 years and done it differently. Thousands of people and young musicians have benefitted and continue to benefit from music through pBone, developing a lifelong skill which has benefits beyond its years. We like flying the flag for the creative sector and will continue to do so for years to come.”

The twelfth annual National Business Awards held at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel was opened by a video address from Rt Hon David Cameron who acknowledged the National Business Awards for recognising excellence in enterprise and honouring some of Britain’s biggest business success stories. He told the audience: “A strong private sector is exactly what Britain needs to get back on its feet. I’m determined that Britain becomes the best place in the world to start a business, to grow a business and to do business.”

The Prime Minister’s message was followed by Sir Bob Geldof, who addressed the 1200 attending business leaders on the role of business in society. HRH Prince Andrew also announced his support for the launch of The HRH Duke of York New Entrepreneur of the Year Award for 2014.
