KORG USA, Inc. Acquires Spector Bass Company

Christian Wissmuller • Upfront • January 14, 2019

In anticipation of Winter NAMM19, KORG USA Inc. has announced the acquisition of the Spector Bass Company. This news marks the next chapter for Spector, as KORG USA, Inc., known for its brand building prowess, plans to take the company to new heights.

“We’ve been the distributor for four years and we knew the history and potential of this iconic brand.  We also knew we could drive the future growth and expansion of the brand as an owner. Once Stuart Spector decided the time was right to entrust us with the operation of his legacy brand, we worked out the acquisition and are now proud owners,” shared Joe Castronovo, President of KORG USA, Inc.

“When the time came to transition to the next phase of life for the Spector brand, choosing KORG USA was an emotional and simple decision all at once. With the team in place at KORG USA, Inc., we are leaving the Spector brand in the best of hands and I am excited to see what the future holds” remarked company founder Stuart Spector.

KORG USA, Inc. based in New York, is now the worldwide headquarters for Spector basses. All global sales, marketing, product design, logistics and financial operations will be based out of the KORG USA, Inc. office, bringing increased efficiencies and expansion to the heritage brand. Spector’s USA custom shop will remain in Woodstock, NY where it has been making custom Spector basses for 27 years.

Former Spector Vice President PJ Rubal remains in place handling artist relations & consulting during the transition, saying “I am proud to have been Stuart Spector’s business partner for half of the Spector company’s first 42 years in business. KORG USA Inc.’s team will continue our great tradition of manufacturing exceptional bass guitars”.

As the new owner, KORG USA, Inc. plans to reinforce Spector’s legacy with new products, a creative rebranding project, and exceptional global sales support. KORG USA, Inc. is also focused on expanding Spector basses’ reach into untapped markets with new distribution partners around the world.

“Our plans for Spector have already started to breathe new life into the brand,” says John Stippell, KORG USA, Inc.’s Product Manager for Spector. “The very first new models will be shown at NAMM and we are excited to have our dealers, press, artists, and anyone who loves bass guitar come see what’s new.”
