Anderson .Paak, a Grammy-nominated drummer, singer, and songwriter (among many other things), is now playing SABIAN Cymbals exclusively.
His current drum setup includes 18″ AA Sick Hats, 19″ Artisan Crash, 12″ AAX O-Zone Splash over a 10″ AA Mini Holy China stack, 22″ HH Liquid Ride Brilliant or Artisan Light Ride, 20″ AAX Aero Crash and a 20″ HHX Evolution O-Zone Crash.
“I need my cymbals to sound like the war cry from a group of guerrilla soldiers and SABIAN gets that done for me!” says Paak.
Over the course of his career, Paak has worked with artists like Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Solange, Calvin Harris, and Pharrell, and has also performed with A Tribe Called Quest at the Grammy Awards. In 2017, he is on tour with Bruno Mars through June.
“I have really enjoyed helping Anderson find his sound. We’re lucky enough to create cymbals for so many great drummers, but it’s a unique experience doing that for a frontman who wrote the music,” says Chris Stankee, SABIAN director of artist relations. “Knowing his attention is on every aspect of the sound in the mix and where the cymbal tones have to fit in. Where the cymbals reside right next to the vocal mic there is no way to avoid bleed and so the darker, hot tones were his preference.
