Mojotone introduced the Hellbender Pickup Set, developed in collaboration with guitarist Bill Kelliher. The set is designed for modern high-gain applications while preserving clarity, note separation and dynamic response.
The Hellbender pairs a ceramic magnet with an Alnico 5 magnet. Mojotone says the combination retains the power and punch of ceramic while adding brighter highs, tighter bass response, upper-mid presence and improved string articulation.
The pickup set is designed around three requirements common to high-gain players: strong magnets, hum-cancelling construction and a balanced frequency curve. Wax potting helps prevent microphonics, while the frequency response emphasizes tight lows, focused mids and clear highs.
According to Mojotone, the collaboration began when Kelliher sought a high-output pickup capable of handling modern gain levels without sacrificing definition. The resulting set is intended to deliver heavy rhythm tones while remaining responsive in stage and studio settings.
