Pro Audio Design, Inc., the highly regarded pro audio retailer and studio design group based in Hanover, Massachusetts, is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a series of celebratory events, starting at The NAMM Show 2023.
For the past three decades, Pro Audio Design Inc (PAD), which was founded by Boston-based musician and accomplished audio engineer Dave Malekpour in 1993, has supplied countless iconic studios, artists and producers with the best in pro audio equipment, as well as cutting-edge studio design, systems integration, and technical services – offering a holistic approach to creating world-class facilities.
The Company will kick off this year of celebration at the NAMM Show 2023, at which Malekpour will also be honored with a NAMM ‘Believe in Music’ Award to commend his dedication and service to the professional audio industry.
Getting down to business
Malekpour developed a deep appreciation and love of music early in life, learning piano, guitar, and drums from the age of 5. In his teens, he experimented with the recording process and even built a small home studio to hone his craft. During these formative years, Malekpour found himself working in several commercial recording studios, absorbing everything he could, getting hands-on in all aspects of the recording and mixing process, and in 1989 founded Anything Audio – specifying audio systems for hospitality, event venues, and recording studios. This was his start to becoming the authority on full-service installation services.
He spent the subsequent three years refining the core business to focus on pro studio installation projects and equipment refurbishment, and in 1993 Pro Audio Design Inc was born. This new and exciting venture combined Malekpour’s talent for selling audio gear with advanced studio design, systems integration, and technical services.
Continued Growth
Having worked on some of the recording industry’s most prevalent facilities in his thirty five year career, Malekpour has always strived to further develop his knowledge of studio design, planning, and construction processes, fine-tuning his craft and working closely with prolific world-leading designers and acousticians including close friend, Andy Munro (Dynaudio).
In 2018, Malekpour joined forces with highly skilled studio architect and designer Michael Bashkhangy, to form Malekpour Design Partners.
“Our vision was clear,” explains Bashkhangy. “We wanted to create exceptional studios – from the design and structure, to technology and of course, superior audio quality – and that’s exactly what we do. After working together these past few years, we have developed a hugely talented team of designers who consistently bring our visions to life.”
To date, Malekpour Design Partners has created recording spaces for clients ranging from artists including Coldplay, Teddy Riley, The Weekend, and Snoop Dogg, to Mix engineers Dave Pensado, Rafa Sardina, Bob Horn, and Jaycen Joshua. And the list keeps on growing.
“We are constantly developing and advancing our methods, and combined with the technical expertise of the PAD Group, we can provide our clients with a full studio project, from idea to completion and beyond,” comments Malekpour.

The PAD Group is showcasing in Booth #15308 in the North Hall at The NAMM Show 2023, April 13-16, in Anaheim, California.
Along with Malekpour Design Partners, PAD Inc will host a TEC Tracks session during The NAMM Show, detailing how to create a home studio with immersive audio. The presentation, “Equipping the Home Studio for 3-D Mixing”, will explore the requirements with respect to acoustics, speaker placement and choices, audio paths, formats, and how it all relates to workflow.
