Ron Tunks, longtime industry veteran and founder of RT Sales, a leading professional audio and M.I. manufacturer’s representative firm, passed away on November 2, 2019. He was 70 years old.

Born Rondal Gavin Tunks on April 18, 1949 in Bowling Green, KY, the Tunk family later relocated to Ft. Lauderdale, FL and he attended Croissant Park Elementary School and graduated from Stranahan High School (also in Ft. Lauderdale) in 1967.

Ron’s friendly manner, easy-going personality, love of music and thorough knowledge of pro audio were ideal attributes for success when he founded RTS (Ron Tunk Sales) in 1979, and over the years, the firm continued to expand, now with offices in South Florida, Central Florida, Atlanta, Nashville, Charlotte and Alabama — to serve manufacturers and integrators of professional audio, lighting and video gear.

Today, under the leadership of his son, company president Bert Tunks and VP, Ron’s wife, Wanda Tunks, RTS continues with an impressive roster of top clients: Absen LED, Architectural Acoustics, Behringer, Crest, Eiki, Furman Sound, Gator Cases, Klark Teknik, Lab.gruppen, Leviton, MediaMatrix, Midas, Neumann, One Systems, Peavey, Rolls, Salamander Designs, Samson Technologies, Sennheiser, Strong, SunBrite, Tannoy, TASCAM, TC Electronic, Whirlwind and Xantech Commercial.

The consummate country gentleman, Ron Tunks had many friends and associates throughout the industry and will long be remembered. At press time, no memorial plans had been announced.
