Triad-Orbit Advanced Stand Systems made its public debut at the AES Show in New York City in October 2013, showcasing its revolutionary reinvention of the microphone stand to a who’s who of the Live Sound, Recording, AV Integration and Education industries. From that inaugural trade show, Triad-Orbit (T-O) established a relationship with Berklee College Of Music, the largest independent college of contemporary music in the world, which has culminated in a service agreement that is a model for colleges, universities and trade schools everywhere.

“EDU’s were always in our sights,” said Herschel Blankenship, managing director of ACCESS Products Group, parent company of Triad-Orbit. “What better environment to introduce new users to  our products than college level recording programs? But what we didn’t know was they were also the ultimate proving ground and torture chamber for our stands. We met lots of professors and studio administrators at that first AES Show and most shared a common story: microphone stands were a problem in their programs and one of their largest reoccurring expenditures.”

“Triad-Orbit grabbed my attention because of the innovative design and obvious quality compared to the traditional stands we were using in our studios,” said Tarik Mahrour, director of Studio Operations at Berklee. In fact, the wear and tear on conventional microphone stands in service at Berklee was so extreme as a result of hundreds of students using them 22-7 throughout two semesters, it became standard practice to discard and replace the entire stand inventory every year or so. Mahrour continued, “It simply wasn’t possible or cost-effective to maintain and repair traditional stands. Parts were not readily available and many core components weren’t field serviceable or replaceable, which was detrimental to the student experience.”

Over the next six years, T-O worked diligently with Mahrour and his team to study the effects of continuous student use cycles, define maintenance and repair procedures and determine the cost and value of investing in premium, sustainable Triad-Orbit stand systems versus replenishing traditional mic stands every year. Mahrour explained, “Triad-Orbit stands are professional grade and the heavy-duty design is built for the long haul. When parts fail they’re readily available and Triad-Orbit customer service is responsive and proactive. Precise mic placement is a basic tenant of recording and T-O stands are precision tools—adjustability is essentially limitless. And speaking of mics, Berklee has an extensive collection of expensive, delicate vintage and boutique microphones that can be damaged or destroyed as a result of stand failures. The robust stability of Triad-Orbit stands protects that considerable investment. In addition, adaptability is important in the classroom and T-O’s adaptive, modular design supports all types of creative devices. The quality and constant evolution of Triad-Orbit keeps our stand investment performing and relevant.”

The result of 10 years of collaboration is the total integration of Triad-Orbit stand systems at Berklee’s Boston campus and a novel Warranty Service and Maintenance agreement to secure the school’s investment in T-O. Blankenship concluded, “This new agreement gives power users like mEDUs, Houses of Worship and institutions a viable option to make the investment in premium Triad-Orbit stand systems and protect and sustain that value for years to come. Triad-Orbit revolutionized the support stand category with patented, innovative design, world-class quality and cutting edge customer service. Now, we’re reinventing the customer experience. One Solution™ is more than a slogan.”
