Twin Town Guitars in Minneapolis has announced that they are the first and only music store in the upper Midwest to offer PLEK machine service for string instruments with metal frets.
A PLEK machine fine-tunes the neck and frets of instruments to get the optimum in tone and playability. Using precision robotic tools, the PLEK machine cuts, shapes and dresses frets, cuts precision nuts, and planes and adjusts fingerboards to achieve the best balance of playability with minimum string height.
Joe Glaser, owner of Glaser Instruments in Nashville, Tennessee, and Ian Weston, owner of Weston Instruments in Ontario, Canada, provided PLEK machine setup and training for Twin Town Guitars technicians. Joe has been using the PLEK machine in his own shop for nearly twenty years, and he had this to say about the machine and the technicians, “The PLEK does everything I can do but with better eyes, better hands and a better memory. We’ve trained the techs at Twin Town Guitars, and they’re definitely offering you the best your instruments can be.”
An electric, acoustic or bass guitar PLEK costs $200, and a 12-string guitar is $250. Pricing for stainless steel frets is $250 and fretboard planing and re-frets start at $350. Service for banjos, mandolins and ukuleles will be available soon.
