After more than 7 years of research and development, Vandoren has released its first synthetic reed for Bb clarinet – the VK1.
The VK1 is made from a proprietary and patented composite material developed in the South of France. This unique material and design reproduces the physical and acoustical behavior of a cane reed to imitate the natural tonal qualities of cane regardless of weather, altitude, or other challenging playing conditions. Something entirely different – yet unmistakably Vandoren – when musicians need it the most.
“The VK1 is the best performing synthetic reed that I have ever tried,” said David Gould, Director of Artist Relations and Advisory Studios at DANSR, inc. “The VK1 has a full sound with an unparalleled stability of intonation and playability amongst synthetic reeds even in the extremes of the clarinet.”
The launch of the VK1 will occur in phases. During Phase One, the VK1 will be available exclusively in the United States through Vandoren Musician’s Advisory Studios in NYC, LA, and Chicago. The purpose of this approach is to build supply while collecting feedback from highly influential clarinetists in the US. Phase 2 – a broader launch to dealers – will follow when inventory reaches appropriate levels.
The VK1 is currently available for Bb clarinet in 6 strengths. Visit www.vkreeds.com/en for more information.
