Robert Glasper worked with KORG to create Glasper’s Grand & EP (EXs43), a free signature sound collection for the KRONOS music workstation. KORG also released KRONOS System Updater v3.2.3, which adds the Tine EP VIII model to the workstation’s EP-1 sound engine.
Glasper developed the collection with KORG’s engineering and sound-design team to reproduce the feel and character of the acoustic and electric pianos he uses in performance. The instruments were recorded note by note for the KRONOS SGX-2 and EP-1 sound engines.
EXs43 includes approximately 2 GB of grand-piano samples captured at soft, medium and loud dynamics for every key. The collection provides two SGX-2 piano types—Glasper German D and Glasper German D (Equal Temperament)—and 16 programs comprising seven grand-piano and nine electric-piano programs.
The sessions used several microphone perspectives, ranging from close-miked tones to a wider studio sound. The electric-piano programs incorporate drive, delay and reverb effects based on Glasper’s performance setup.
KRONOS System Updater v3.2.3 is available at no charge to owners of KRONOS 1, X, 2 and 3 instruments. Its Tine EP VIII model expands the electric-piano options in the EP-1 engine.
The grand-piano sessions were recorded in Studio A at Chaplin Recording Studios, formerly Henson Studios. KORG also filmed Glasper demonstrating the Glasper Grand and Glasper Electric Piano at the Blue Note Jazz Club.
