Boris FX has announced a forthcoming update to its Sequoia digital audio workstation, version 2026.5, which introduces a visual spatial panning tool. According to Mixonline, the new feature is designed to give audio engineers more precise control over spatial audio mixes.
Reporting from Mixonline, the Spatial Panner supports a wide range of audio formats, including stereo, surround sound, and immersive audio environments. The tool’s design allows for simultaneous delivery of mixes in various formats, streamlining the workflow for audio professionals. Mixonline also notes that adjustments made with the Spatial Panner can be connected across different target formats, ensuring consistency.
The Spatial Panner’s capabilities extend to formats with up to 22.2 channels, offering extensive flexibility for complex audio projects. Users can also link panning adjustments across multiple target buses, further simplifying the mixing process. The interface provides visual feedback with peak meters, solo/mute controls, and track color coding for each audio source. An optional three-dimensional view is available to help users visualize the spatial placement and relationships between audio elements.
Beyond the Spatial Panner, Sequoia 2026.5 reportedly delivers enhanced overall performance, including faster waveform calculations during playback. The update also incorporates an improved video engine and greater compatibility with audio plugins.
