The historic Music Box Theatre, a Chicago landmark established in 1929, has completed a significant audio system overhaul. According to reporting by Mix Online, the upgrade aims to enhance the patron experience while preserving the venue’s classic atmosphere.
Kinora, an audio design and installation company, collaborated closely with the theatre to create and implement the new system. The project involved careful consideration of the building's unique architectural characteristics and the need to accommodate a wide range of film formats, including older optical soundtracks.
The newly installed audio equipment features Alcons Audio loudspeakers, including pro-ribbon screen systems and line-source column arrays. Low-frequency reinforcement is provided by subwoofers positioned discreetly behind the projection screen. The loudspeakers were precisely color-matched to the theatre’s décor, ensuring a seamless integration with the space.
Patrons can now anticipate improved clarity and intelligibility of dialogue, alongside the ability to faithfully reproduce the nuances of vintage film soundtracks. The upgrades provide a better listening experience without detracting from the theatre's charm.
