Bitwig Studio has unveiled version 6.1, featuring a significantly redesigned Sampler device, according to MusicRadar. The German software developer asserts that the new version will encourage users to experiment with sampling techniques previously unavailable.
The updated Sampler offers a major overhaul, providing users with expanded capabilities, notably including sample slicing functionality. Users can now load audio and divide it into slices that can be triggered through MIDI controllers or a piano roll interface. Multiple slicing modes, such as Divisions, Beats, Onsets, and Manual, provide flexibility in how samples are segmented.
Beyond slicing, the Sampler now includes automatic pitch analysis for simplified keyboard mapping. The device can automatically determine a sample’s root key by analyzing the average pitch or identifying a specific point in the waveform. Furthermore, each slice can have individual loop settings and modulation sources, allowing for complex sound design.
During playback, samples are dynamically retuned to maintain the desired pitch, even if the original recording’s pitch fluctuates. This feature enhances the versatility of the Sampler for a wide range of musical applications.
