Lighting designer Steve McCracken deployed ChamSys MagicQ MQ250M consoles to drive visual production for the global K-Pop Forever tour, according to a report from LSi Online. The two-part, 90-minute show features various artists celebrating the genre, with McCracken leveraging the console’s Colour Picker feature to generate bold, unconventional mixes that match the high-energy performance style. He stated that the songs required distinctive visuals, leading him to create unique color combinations rather than standard looks.
LSi Online notes that McCracken found the digital color selection much more efficient than winding color flags in and out, allowing rapid tweaks while morphing between different rigs and fixtures. The designer also highlighted time-saving patch features for saving fixture modes. To manage the fast-paced nature of the production, which includes elements of busking, McCracken utilized on-cue stacks and macros to trigger effects on separate playbacks, enabling real-time adjustments to strobes and key lights via faders.
The compact form factor of the MQ250M proved critical for the tour’s logistics, as the unit fits into a Peli case suitable for airline check-in on frequent fly dates. Furthermore, LSi Online reports that Morph Clone and Offset Patching capabilities allowed the team to adapt quickly to varying venue rigs without losing programmed groups or grids. This functionality helps technicians adjust to specific house equipment configurations rapidly while maintaining their show file integrity throughout the global itinerary.
