Solid State Logic (SSL) has upgraded its live console demonstration room at the company’s Oxford headquarters with a new EM Acoustics Reference Series loudspeaker system. According to Installation magazine, this deployment replaces a portable solution that had served the facility for 12 years, aiming to provide visiting engineers with an authentic live sound environment for training and show file preparation on SSL Live Series consoles.
The installed configuration features a pair of EM Acoustics R8 compact precision point source speakers equipped with narrow 80 x 50 rotatable waveguides, supported by an S-15 subwoofer. Installation reports that the system is powered by a DQ10 lightweight four-channel Class D switchmode amplifier and managed via System Engineer software. Tom Knowles, director of product management at SSL, stated that the room requires a live experience rather than studio monitoring to accurately reflect on-show conditions for engineers.
Ed Arnold, UK support team leader for large format consoles at SSL, noted the system delivers sufficient levels while maintaining portability representative of near-field festival tower situations. Arnold also highlighted the ease of configuring crossovers and delays within the software without consulting manuals. Roger Harpum, business development manager at EM Acoustics, expressed pride in having their Reference Series loudspeakers selected to highlight the exceptional audio quality associated with SSL desks, marking a strategic collaboration between the manufacturer and the console supplier.
