Tokyo-based audio manufacturer Esoteric has launched the T-01, a premium turntable that utilizes a proprietary contactless drive mechanism. This model builds upon technology first seen in the Grandioso T1, which marked the brand’s 35th anniversary and introduced the original MagneDrive system. The new T-01 integrates high-torque magnetically induced rotation with a 10MHz clock sync, a reduced-mass platter, and a vibration-controlled chassis. By eliminating belts, rims, and direct mechanical linkages between the motor and platter, the patented system (JP6501130) isolates the platter from motor vibrations and rumble.

A magnetic driver sits above the motor, featuring alternating poles and a soft-iron wheel that surrounds the non-magnetic aluminum platter. This configuration ensures silent, stable rotation without speed irregularities or the need for belt maintenance. Additionally, the Magne-Float platter reduces the platter’s effective mass to around 4kg. This design lowers spindle-bearing friction while preserving rotational stability and high torque for accurate pitch and strong low-frequency reproduction.
