A new resource for Jazz groups of
all sizes has arrived in the form of Two Chord Jams, a book by composer and
educator Peter Sciaino offering a fun and focused approach to Jazz
improvisation. Two Chord Jams contains twelve original, performable tunes,
designed to support beginning improvisers in both small group and large
ensemble settings, along with free downloadable backing tracks so students
can practice individually.
“Two Chord Jams was designed to remove part of the intimidation factor from
learning and teaching Jazz improvisation while still producing music that
feels authentic and rewarding to play,” says author and composer Peter
Sciaino. “By keeping the harmony simple, students can focus on groove,
listening, and musical expression, all while learning how to read lead
sheets and improvise with confidence. It’s a resource that works just as
well in rehearsal as it does in performance for ensembles of any size.”
The twelve selections in the book include the melody (head), background
figures for solo sections, suggested scales, and fully notated rhythm
section parts. Two Chord Jams also provides suggestions for flexible use:
as a full Jazz Ensemble warm-up or exercise, in performance, or as a way
for students to practice improvisation, comping, or playing bass lines on
their own with backing tracks.
Two Chord Jams is available for $24.99 for the Conductor’s Score and $9.99
per part book from music retailers and from the publisher.
Part books are available for Flute, Alto/Bari
Sax, Tenor Sax, Trumpet/Clarinet/Baritone T.C., Trombone/Euphonium, and
Rhythm Section.
Two Chord Jams will be unveiled in-person at the 2026 Texas Music Educators
Association (TMEA) Conference and Clinic in San Antonio, Texas.
