Following difficulties in attracting and retaining technology personnel, postponements of its upcoming primary model, and reports of declining employee satisfaction, Google has declared significant alterations to its artificial intelligence divisions.
According to a report from MIT Technology Review, the restructuring involves a shift in responsibilities for DeepMind, a key component of Google’s artificial intelligence efforts. Demis Hassabis, who previously managed DeepMind's daily operations, will transition to a chairman position and assume the role of Alphabet’s chief scientist. The reporting indicates this represents a broader expansion of his duties.
Koray Kavukcuoglu, currently DeepMind's chief technology officer, will assume leadership of the unit, holding the title of senior vice-president. The changes come as Google navigates a period of adjustment within its artificial intelligence sector.
