Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers has made available the Lifeforms SV-2, a new analog synthesizer. According to Pittsburgh Modular, the instrument incorporates updated oscillators, waveshapes, overdrive capabilities, and filter modes, while retaining a foundation in traditional analog signal routing.
The synthesizer's design leverages established analog principles, and incorporates innovative features such as Thru-zero FM and Phase Modulation. A new Pulse Symmetry function allows for modulation of pulse waves, while the Blade Wave generates a sawtooth waveform enhanced with a chorus effect. Reporting indicates the Pittsburgh Filter is designed to maintain a consistent tonal quality across the audible frequency range.
Further details reveal the SV-2 includes Character modes and a dedicated overdrive circuit, utilizing six distinct stages for saturation and signal enhancement. Users can select from monophonic, paraphonic, and duophonic operational modes. The instrument also integrates dual analog ADSR envelopes, which can be adjusted to customize their response. A spring reverb tank is included, complemented by a custom EQ shaper.
