Reason Studios has announced the availability of Reason Free, a complimentary offering designed to broaden access to its signature Rack system. According to Music Instrument News, this new version functions as a plugin, supporting VST3, AU, and AAX formats within compatible digital audio workstations.
Reason Free incorporates 15 instruments, effects, and utilities, and provides users access to the Reason Rack Extension marketplace. This allows producers to expand their sonic palette with options from both Reason Studios and independent developers, many exclusive to the Reason ecosystem. The new product does not include limitations such as trial periods, expiration dates, or watermarks.
Product Manager Mattias Häggström Gerdt stated that the release aims to share the spirit of musical exploration that defines Reason. The included instruments, such as the wavetable synthesizer Europa, offer over 600 pre-designed sounds. Users can also connect devices, modify signals, and create custom signal chains within their preferred DAW.
For users seeking an even more extensive selection, a Reason+ subscription unlocks over 90 instruments, effects, and Players, along with weekly Sound Packs and the full Reason DAW experience.
