Developer Jeff McClintock announced the beta release of SynthEdit 1.6, which for the first time runs on macOS as well as Windows, according to a report from Synthtopia.

The software is a visual modular environment that lets users create virtual instruments and audio effects by arranging modules on a canvas and linking them with virtual patch cables, eliminating the need to write low‑level DSP code.

Version 1.6 adds macOS support and a Linux version is under development. SynthEdit includes a built‑in panel designer for custom plugin interfaces and can export VST3 plugins on both platforms and Audio Unit plugins on macOS. It supports Intel and Apple Silicon Macs, offers an “Export as JUCE” option, and handles MIDI 2.0, MPE, and SFZ sample playback. More than 300 built‑in modules are provided, and the platform can be expanded with a library of over 1,000 third‑party C++ modules.

SynthEdit is now available for macOS and Windows, with a free, non‑expiring demo, while a Linux version remains in development, the source said.
