Genelec monitoring systems have been incorporated throughout the Glasgow School of Art’s relocated facilities, according to Installation International. The institution moved its operations from Pacific Quay to a new location, designed to improve the student learning environment. Reporting from Installation International details the audio setup across the school’s various spaces.

The new facilities encompass a Dolby Atmos room, a surround sound studio, and a Soundlab dedicated to Ambisonics research. The Dolby Atmos studio utilizes eleven Genelec 8030C monitors, complemented by a 7060B subwoofer to provide extended low-frequency response. The Ambisonics Soundlab features Genelec 8010A monitors, with a 7050C subwoofer added later to improve the lower frequencies.

The 5.1 surround sound studio maintains a selection of existing Genelec 1029A monitors, some of which have been in use for nearly two decades. A network utilizing Dante technology connects all of the audio studios, facilitating flexible routing and control. Initially, the Ambisonics Soundlab did not include low-frequency reinforcement, but the addition of a 7050C subwoofer rectified this.

Students benefit from the high-resolution imaging capabilities of the 8030 monitors in the Atmos studio, while the 1029A monitors, combined with the 7050 subwoofer, deliver a complete sonic spectrum. The audio setup is designed to provide a comprehensive and modern learning experience.
