Xfer Records has released a public beta of Serum 2 for Linux, marking a significant expansion in its market reach. Gearnews reported that this update includes advanced oscillator features and free upgrades for existing users, now available for registered customers to test directly from the developer website.
The Linux version of Serum 2 requires a 64-bit x86 CPU with AVX2 support and a Linux distribution running GLIBC 2.38 or later, such as Ubuntu 24.04. Producers working exclusively on Linux will benefit from this move, as it brings a flagship synthesizer to a platform rarely supported by industry standards. The digital audio workstation must also support specific technical protocols like X11 and VST3 IPluginFactory3 setHostContext for proper functionality.
Serum 2 introduces a redesigned oscillator section with new synthesis methods, including a multisample oscillator and granular oscillator. These features, along with an arpeggiator and clip sequencer, enhance creative workflow and expand the synth capabilities beyond traditional synthesis. The update is free for all existing Serum users, reinforcing the commitment to lifetime updates. With over 626 new presets and 288 wavetables, Serum 2 continues to position itself as a leading tool for modern sound design while offering an enormous variety of sounds.
